Many countries are adopting an internet censorship policy regulating what can be seen by and done by people in their countries. Cuba, Iran, and China all have very tight control over what internet content passes into their country. Especially targeted is social Networking sites were people can openly exchange information and ideas.
Just as we have all known about the predators online looking to take advantage of the unsuspecting, and those who target our young ones, there is some websites whose content is just not meant for our youth. Thankfully, the developers of internet browsers have become increasingly aware of the public’s concerns and have put parental controls in their software.
These parental controls allow us block websites whose content is not desirable in our eyes for our younger computer users. Where once the internet was wide open, we now have the ability to block websites with adult themes or other questionable subject matters from entering into our homes. We even have the power to monitor and restrict our children’s communication on social networking sites.
With the popularity of instant messaging, parents are faced with a whole new set of challenges raising today’s use. Some claim it is an invasion of privacy. We say it is the act of a responsible parent protecting their child from the dangers on the internet until they are old enough to understand all of the implications associated with internet use.
